Our Surgical Services

Pet surgery is necessary in a wide range of situations. While spaying and neutering to prevent unwanted litters are the most common routine procedures, surgery is also used to treat a wide range of health issues. It may be scheduled or performed within emergency treatment to address conditions like:

Mass removals

Soft tissue trauma repair

Foreign body removals

At Hickory Grove Animal Hospital, we perform a wide range of surgeries. These procedures are performed to alleviate a pet’s distress, support their health, and reduce the likelihood of death from a serious accident, injury, or illness.

Anesthesia may be used during your pet’s procedure. Your veterinarian will determine whether or not anesthesia will benefit your pet during surgery. Because different anesthesia regimes are used in different cases, we may recommend:

A tranquilizer or sedative

General anesthetic

A local anesthetic

Inhalant anesthesia

An intravenous catheter

Your pet will be thoroughly examined to ensure that they are healthy enough to undergo anesthesia. They will also be closely monitored while under anesthesia and after any surgical procedure. Their blood pressure, body temperature, oxygen levels, heart and lung function, and more will be continuously monitored to ensure their well-being. In addition, your beloved companion will be placed on a warming pad during their procedure. This helps maintain an appropriate body temperature. Your pet’s comfort and safety are always our primary concerns before, during, and after any surgical procedure.

When it’s time for your pet to go home, we will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions and any medications your companion will need in the coming days. Our veterinarians in Charlotte, NC, will also address any questions or concerns you may have, and you are welcome to contact us (or local emergency clinics if after hours) after you head home if you need additional information or support.
