Read on for information about what K-laser therapy is, its benefits and what you can expect during treatment at our facility.
What is K-Laser Therapy?
K-laser therapy uses what scientists classify as Class IV therapeutic laser beams, which aim near infrared and red wavelengths (laser light) to cause a photochemical reaction in the tissues, which conveys a powerful therapeutic effect.
Pioneered in Europe during the 1970s, K-laser therapy was approved for use in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2005.
Your vet will use the K-laser equipment to tune the laser to use different light frequencies. For example, the 660nm wavelength setting is easily absorbed by the melanin in skin to promote regulation of scar tissues and to heal wounds faster.
The 970 nm wavelength is absorbed by water, so applying this level brings energy that boosts blood circulation to induce more rapid healing.
What Are the Veterinary Benefits of Using K-Laser Therapy on Your Pets?
The use of K-laser therapy on your cat or dog is designed to boost blood flow and circulation. This helps the body naturally heal its tissues faster.
The laser light tends to reduce inflammation and in turns cuts down on painful sensations, providing relief to your ailing pet without the need for invasive surgery or the use of pain medications.
Laser treatment is painful and safe. The vet will aim the laser at the affected area of your pet’s body. As blood circulation increases, it brings more nutrients along with water and oxygen to let the body heal the damaged area more quickly and effectively. Pain reduces naturally as the tissue starts turning back to its normal state.
At the cellular level, the laser light is actually boosting the metabolic activity taking place in each cell. As nutrients move across the cells’ membranes under K-laser light stimulation, more cellular energy is generated, which in turns hastens the healing process.
What to Expect During K-Laser Therapy
You can expect that your animal companion will start to feel a reduction in pain and inflammation. Approximately 85% of cats and dogs are helped with K-laser treatment.
