Most Common Dog Health Problems

With all the dogs we see in our office, there's a surprising number of these same five health problems:

  1. Ear infections
  2. Skin allergies

Most Common Cat Health Problems

Cats tend to develop a bit more serious health problems, or maybe they're just better at hiding the minor ailments. We see more cats for these problems than anything else:

  1. Lower urinary tract infections

  3. Chronic renal failure
  4. Hyperthyroidism or other thyroid problems
  5. Diabetes

When to Bring Your Pet Into Our Office

While many of the most common pet health problems are natural results of dogs and cats getting older, pets can develop any health problem at any age. The key to figuring out when your pet is truly sick it to pay attention to its behavior. If you're used to the way your pet commonly acts, you'll be quick to notice if it's suddenly hiding behind the couch, drinking a lot more water, needing to go outside much more often, or acting aggressively toward friends. Any marked change in behavior can be a sign of a serious health problem and should be brought to our veterinarian's attention.
